Valves

In 1991, S.B. International, Inc.® entered the Aftermarket Engine Valve arena and became the Marketer and Supplier of its now famous E-LOY® Brand Engine Valves. The SBI® E-LOY® Brand Of Engine Valves quickly became as legendary as its J-LOY® Valve Seat Inserts and indeed, the Legend lives on today! All E-LOY® Engine Valves are manufactured utilizing the latest Processes, Techniques, Statistical Processing & Highest Quality Standards available in the industry today. The E-LOY® Brand Engine Valve Materials that are used consist of Austenitic (Non-Magnetic) or Martensitic (Magnetic) Steels and Nickel-Chromium Based Super Alloys along with other Cobalt, Iron and Nickel Based (Stellite®) facing alloys which have been designed to run in modern Unleaded,  Diesel and Gaseous Fuel Engines. Chrome Plated & Nitride Valve Stems are available where specific engine applications require it. Oversized Valve Stems are available in certain applications and are indicated by a suffix of +3 (+0.003") and +15 (+0.015"). To this day, SBI supplies the most comprehensive Model Coverage in the industry.

Gaseous Fuel Applications

Including offering the most comprehensive Model Coverage in the industry, SBI supplies Valves for OEM Converted CNG & LPG engines as well as Valves for the most popular Aftermarket converted engines and coverage for Gaseous Fuel engines used in Automotive, Heavy Duty & Industrial Applications. In these Gaseous Fuel applications, the Super Alloys that are used are an oxidation and corrosion resistant material well suited for service in extreme environments that are subjected to higher combustion pressures and temperatures. These types of engines require specific Valve Materials and/or Facing Alloys along with the Correct Valve Seat Insert Materials in order to Maximize Service Life while operating in these extreme environments and conditions. The replacement of ONLY the Valve or ONLY the Valve Seat Insert can often cause problems for the Rebuilder as one mismatched component will often cause the mating component to fail. It is not safe to assume that a worn Valve is all that needs to be replaced. The worn Valve may be caused by the use of an incorrect Valve Seat Insert Material in that application. If you are not sure if the mating component is correct for the type of fuel being used, contact the SBI Technical Department and remember, it is always recommended to replace BOTH components at the same time.

Domestic Performance

SBI Domestic Performance Valves have been designed and constructed Using the Highest Quality Stainless Steel with Special Features that improve their operational performance over Standard Stock Valves. All SBI Domestic Performance Valves feature Single Keeper Groove designs. Longer stems are available for popular Small Block and Big Block applications. It is recommended all SBI Domestic Performance Valves are installed with a .002” Minimum Stem-To-Guide clearance. See The SBI® Performance Catalog To Find The Right Valve and mating components for your needs.

Features & Benefits

  • One-Piece 21-4N Stainless Steel Construction — Provides Strength And Corrosion Resistance During High Temperature Operation.
  • Hardened Stem Tip — Hardened To 50 HRC Minimum And Resists High Impact Forces In Performance Valvetrain Setups.
  • Optional Tapered Stem Exhaust Valve — Prohibits Stem Galling And Reduces Oil Consumption By Maintaining Consistent Stem Clearance At Operating Temperatures.
  • Chrome Plated Valve Stem — Resists Wear And Galling.
  • Swirl Polished, Fully Machined Surfaces — Improves Gas Flow For Optimum Performance.
  • Undercut Valve Stems — Reduces Weight And Improves Gas Flow.
  • Consistent Valve Head Shape — Provides Equal Volume In The Combustion Chamber.

Diesel Performance

SBI Diesel Performance Valves are a Bimetallic design utilizing special processes which improve their overall durability and performance over stock valves. Each Valve is constructed using a Premium-Grade Austenitic Stainless Steel head material on both the Intake (EV8) and Exhaust (EV16) Positions with a mid-stem weld using a High-Grade High Chromium Steel Stem Material (HNV3). Each valve is Fully Machined and Nitrided all over, then Polished. Each valve tip is hardened to a minimum of 50 HRc for added durability. See The SBI® Performance Catalog To Find The Right Valve and mating components for your needs.

Features & Benefits

  • Premium-Grade Austenitic Stainless Steel Head Material on both Intake and Exhaust — Provides Strength And Corrosion Resistance During High Temperature Operation.
  • Mid-Stem Weld Using High-Grade Chromium Steel Stem Material on both Intake and Exhaust — Provides Superior durability over wafer tip for these applications.
  • Fully Machined — Improves Gas Flow For Optimum Performance.
  • Special Nitride Process — Strengthens Entire Valve and adds additional friction wear resistance.
  • Polished Valve Stem — Provides Better Friction Wear Resistance and improved seal between valve stem and valve stem seal.
  • Polished Top Of Head — Offers less carbon buildup.
  • Nitride Valve Seat Face —  Offers added wear resistance, hardness, and durability.
  • Nitride All Over With A Smooth Black Satin Finish — Offers Additional Material Surface Treatment and hardness which results in less friction wear and added durability.

Valve Suffix Explanation

  • "R" Suffix = Domestic & Diesel Performance
  • "S" Suffix = Stellite Faced. Required for many Heavy Duty Diesel and some Gasoline Exhaust Valve applications. In certain OEM Required Heavy Duty Diesel applications the Intake Valve can also require Stellite. These Stellite Faced valves are typically Used where corrosion and burning are a problem and shown as an optional valve in some applications.
  • "SN" Suffix = Stellite Faced & Sodium Cooled. Used in some Medium & Heavy Duty applications and features a hollow stem which is partially filled with sodium that transfers the heat away from the critical valve head area.

Valve Stem Finish Explanation

  • "CP" = Chrome Plated Valve Stem
  • "NR" = Nitride Valve Stem
